Philip Hunt

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Philip Hunt, age 96 of Cleveland. Philip was born in White County on April 27, 1917 to the late Hansel H. Hunt and Martha Evans Hunt. He was a retired farmer and led a full and fruitful life. He attended North Georgia Technical School and learned the art of welding, later working with the Purina Company assembling feed towers. He was also a Justice of the Peace, a position he held for some 30 years. It was during WWII, that Philip entered the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Okinawa as an aircraft aviation mechanic and was awarded the Bronze Medal. He was active for many years in the Yonah Lodge F&AM, where he was awarded his 60 year pin. Those who knew Philip, knew him to be an honest and sincere man who always had a story to tell and one who would leave a legacy of goodness to family and to his many friends. In addition to his parents, Philip is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Vista Eloise Mundy Hunt, grandson, Jonathan Hunt, sisters, Bonnie Wheeler, Gertrude Welchel,Henrietta Roberts, Lucy Compton and Harriett Sloan, as well as his brother, E.B. Hunt and son in law, L. Jerry Eskew. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Hunt-Eskew. sons Gary Hunt (Janie), Jeff Hunt (Holly); grandchildren, Sera Jones, (Dale) Brandon Hunt (Crystal), Philip Hunt (Melissa)Nancy Hunt, Jessica Hunt , Katie Ragan and Gina Hunt; great grandchildren are Amberleigh and Andrew Jones, Nicholas Hunt, Jonathan Hunt and Colston Hunt as well as sisters, Betty Hollingsworth and Pauline Barden

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Sunday, March 23, 2014 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Redwine officiating. Interment will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will recieve friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 8 pm.
