Obituary Date: Monday, March 17, 2014


Johnny Harold Free, age 70, of Gainesville, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 of an extended illness surrounded by family & friends.


Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Wayne Hicks will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4 - 6 pm and 7 - 9 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Free was born May 15, 1943 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Ransom Free and Lottie Dyer Free. He was born and raised in the New Holland Mill Community and retired from Hall County Correction Institute. Johnny was an avid gun enthusiast and loved hunting and fishing. He loved his family dearly, especially the grandchildren. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Charles "Rudy" Free, James "Porky" Free and Michael Free and sister, Phyllis Millwood.

Mr. Free is survived by his wife, Judy Free of Gainesville, his sons & daughters-in-law, Johnny & Amanda Free of Braselton, Jody & Cynthia Free of Gainesville, Terry & Angie Cash of Dahlonega, a daughter, Shannon Cash of Gainesville, sisters, Jan Crowe of Flowery Branch and Helen Fowler of Gainesville, his grandchildren, Haley, Wyatt, Little Haley, Connor, Savannah, Mason, Reagan, Kristin, Dylan, Eli, Caiden, Paige and Alan, his 2 great-grandchildren, Carder and Millee, a very special lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Ronnie Orr of Gainesville, 2 very special people to the family, Shannon and Alicia Hamilton of Gainesville and a very special niece and her husband, Dianne & Jeff Sunderman.
