Peggy Juanita Haslett Hamby Collins

Peggy Juanita Haslett Hamby Collins died following a short battle with Chronic Myleomonacytic Leukemia on Friday, March 7, 2014.



Born May 30, 1943, in Gainesville, GA, she grew up in Tucker, GA, where she graduated from Tucker High School in 1961 and from West Georgia College in 1965 with a BS degree in Elementary Education. Later, she earned a Masters Degree in MS Education from North Georgia College. She taught 4th grade in Fulton County for two years and she taught LA and GA studies for 17 years at RCMS. In 1998 Peggy was named MS Teacher of the Year.



Peggy was a member of Clayton Baptist Church for 45 years, a long-time member of the Anita Roper Circle, and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.



She was preceded in death by her parents, George Terry Haslett and LaVelle Jane Reynolds Haslett, her first husband, William Franklin Hamby, DDS, and one nephew, James Henry Glen III.



She is survived by her husband Bobby Richard Collins of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Hamby Becker and her husband Robert of Cumming, GA, and Gina LaVelle Hamby Chambers of Hiawassee, GA. Her five grandchildren include William Henry (Hank) Chambers (age 16), Andrew Tucker Chambers (age 14), Emily Kaitlyn Becker (age 6), and twins Carson and Cole (age 4).



The family will receive friends Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 1-3 PM and from 5-7 PM at Beck Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Rabun Memory Park.
