Perrin Coleman Reynolds, Sr. age 91, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, March 8, 2014 in the Chapel at Gainesville First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Coates officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
He was born to the late Reuben and Julia (Hubbard) Reynolds on May 1, 1922 in Clanton, Alabama. He grew up in Clanton with his brothers Reuben, Jr. and Hubbard Reynolds. During WWII Mr. Reynolds proudly served in the Navy during WWII as a weatherman and cryptoanalyst. He attended Birmingham Southern and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and ultimately graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He married Jane Sims, the love of his life, October 7, 1950 and they began their life together in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds then moved to Gainesville to accept employment with Laudermilk Insurance in 1951. Together with many other beloved Gainesville couples, the Reynolds enjoyed several years of young married life in the Moss Hill apartments on Forrest Ave. They built a home on Tall Oaks Drive (a street which they had the pleasure of naming) in 1959, which has remained the family home to this day.
In 1952 Mr. Reynolds partnered with Ed Parks and Earl Day to launch Day, Reynolds and Parks Insurance agency. He enjoyed a successful career with the agency that spanned over 30 years.
Mr. Reynolds loved the Gainesville community and was active in several organizations, including Kiwanis, Rotary, the Chattahoochee Country Club, the Gainesville City School Board, the Wall Street Investors Club and First Baptist Church, where he cherished his longtime membership of The Anglers.
Many in Gainesville remember Mr. Reynolds for his golf game. A champion of the 1965 Gainesville City Tournament and many Member-Guest Tournaments in the Southeast, he was a proud supporter of Gainesville's courses and could be found on the links through his 90th year. As his many golf partners would attest, Mr. Reynolds exemplified his belief that the true character of a man could be known by his integrity on the course.
Perrin and Jane were revered in the community for their dedication to their family. Julie, Coleman and Ann, their three children, were blessed with loving and involved parents who truly gave their lives to the well-being of their family. Julie's physical disability required much extra care and attention, but the love and commitment with which Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds cared for her became a hallmark of their lives and a selfless example to the community around them.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his son Perrin Coleman Reynolds, Jr. (wife Sally) of Gainesville, his daughter Ann Barker (husband Larry)of Gainesville, his grandchildren Andrea Sanders (husband Chris) of Detroit, MI, Ginny Early (husband Nate) of Gainesville, John Barker of Chattanooga, TN, Peter Barker of Orange County, CA, Coleman Barker of Scottsdale, AZ, Jordan Barker, Finley Barker, Duncan Barker, Martin Sewell and Griffin Sewell of Gainesville, and by his great-grandchildren Ella Early and Scarlett Early of Gainesville and Ava Sanders and Karis Sanders of Detroit, MI.
