Sarah Ophelia (Fifi) Turner, 82 of Cleveland, GA, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Fifi was born to the late Charlie Burch and Essie Elizabeth Ramey on May 4, 1931 in Rabun County, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Turner, Cleveland, GA; brothers, Bobby Ramey, Clayton, GA; Johnny Ramey of Wiley, GA; Russell Ramey, Clayton, GA, sister-in-laws, Jean Ramey, Conyers, GA; Loppy Ramey, Clayton, GA, brother-in-law, Larry Turner of Cleveland, GA.
Fifi graduated from Toccoa Falls High School in Toccoa, GA. She graduated from Truett-McConnell College, in Cleveland, GA, with an A.A. degree and Piedmont College, in Demorest, GA with a B.A. in education. She taught 33 years in the White County School System and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Following her retirement from teaching, she served as the office manager of the White County News for more than 10 years.
Fifi and Thomas met when she started her teaching career in White County. They enjoyed 40 years of marriage before Thomas passed away in 1992. Fifi was a loving and incredibly supportive wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She faced life, with and unwavering faith in God, a healthy sense of humor and a "can-do" attitude. She was a long time member of Cleveland First Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Faith Sunday School Class, the Card Ministry, and the Grand Adults. She served in various leadership roles and ministries over the years, which included teaching Sunday School, directing Vacation Bible School, leading a Convalescent Home Ministry, Women on Mission, singing in the choir and helping on the hostess committee. She was a member of the White County Retired Teachers Association. She loved to cook and will be remembered for her delicious southern cooking, especially her homemade banana puddings that she enjoyed sharing with her friends.
Fifi left her family and friends a legacy of a life well lived. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis Turner, Cleveland, GA; Mark and Brandi Turner, Cleveland, GA; grandsons, Logan and Cooper Turner, Cleveland, GA; brothers and sisters, Hoyt Ramey, Wiley, GA; Clifford Ramey, Clayton, GA; Opal and Hugh Ivester, Hull, GA; Janet and Kenneth Turner, Wiley, GA; Mike and Reba Ramey, Wiley, GA; brother-in-law, Bobby and Joyce Turner, Demorest, GA; sister-in-laws, Joyce and Alton Wofford, Cleveland, GA; Annette Turner, Cleveland, GA; Marsha Ramey, Clayton, GA; Berma Ramey, Clayton, GA; Merrie Queen, Clayton, GA; Brenda Ramey, Clayton, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, at 11:00 AM at Cleveland First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Gateway Memorial Gardens.
