Loy Chester, 88, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday February 23, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Born September 23, 1925 in Dawson County to the late Fate and Rachael Chester, he lived most of his life in Lumpkin County. For many years Mr. Chester worked in the timber industry and farmed. He was a beekeeper and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Loy was a loving husband and father who was devoted to his family. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bertha Lou Chester; eight brothers and a sister. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Glenda and Perry Weaver, the loving staff at Foothills Assisted Living, and for the loving attention of his nurses.
Surviving are his children, Daniel Chester, Gainesville; Kathy and Junior Stover, Dahlonega, Gary and Nicki Chester, Dahlonega, Tony and Jan Chester, Dahlonega; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 2 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. L. C. Bennett and Rev. Jimmy Chester will officiate. Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
