Ray Martin

Ray Martin, age 87 of Flowery Branch, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend David Matthews and Reverend Larry Allison will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Martin was born on October 31, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Henry Virgil Martin Sr. and Roxie Jones Martin. He was retired from Ralston Purina. Mr. Martin served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Nell Smith Martin; his son, David Martin, Grandson, Bryan Strickland, and a number of brothers and sisters.
Mr. Martin is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Jean (Terrel) Strickland, of Chestnut Mountain, Jane (Jim) Hawkinson, of Slidell, Louisiana, Judy (Ed) Cato of Hoschton, son, Tony (Rena) Martin of Hoschton, daughter-in-law, Jeanne Irvin Martin of Gillsville, granddaughters and husbands, Courtney (Ryan) Smith of Chestnut Mountain, Lori (C.J.) Clarke of Jefferson, Carla (Stephen) Mitchell of Cumming, granddaughter Kaylee Martin of Gillsville, grandsons and wives, Allen (Kim) Castleberry of Cumming, Matthew (Tiffany) Hawkinson of Picayune, Mississippi, grandson, Scott Hawkinson of Pearl River, Louisiana, 6 great grandchildren, sister and brother in law, Eula Jean (W.H.) Byers of Gainesville, brother, H.V. Martin of Gainesville, sister in law, Ila Bell Martin of Gainesville.
