Max O'Neil Watson, Sr. of Gainesville, Georgia, age 85, died peacefully in his sleep February 20, 2014 after a brief illness.
Born May 26, 1928 in Sharpsburg, Georgia to Frank Watson and Audrey Tumlin Watson, the second of three sons, he studied Civil Engineering at North Georgia, and served in the army during the Korean War.
In 1952 he settled in Shelby, North Carolina where he met his future wife, Amy Wilson. They married in 1953 and enjoyed sixty years of marriage, raising four children.
Max was involved all his adult life in car sales and transport. He owned his own car lot on Poplar Springs Road for many years until he embarked on transporting automobiles on his 18-wheeler car carrier. He was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church for over 55 years and was always a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Amy; sons, Max Jr. and Lindsey (Denise) of Gainesville; daughters, Hope (Randall) Hulsey, Mimi (Richard) Cundiff, all of Gainesville; grandchildren, April (Dean) Cook, Gabriel (Lori) Watson, all of Blairsville, Georgia, Chance Watson, Raina Cundiff, and lan Cundiff, all of Gainesville; five great grandchildren; and his two brothers Frank (Betty) and Rex (Gwen) Watson of Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2pm at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Gainesville, with an interment in the adjacent cemetery following the service. Rev. David Matthews and Rev. Randall Hulsey will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at
Little & Davenport Funeral Home.
