George M. (Doodle) Reese, Jr

George M. (Doodle) Reese, Jr. was born May 20, 1928 and passed away February 18, 2014, in his home, at age 85 of natural causes, due to a period of declining health.



He is preceded in death by his parents George M. Reese, Sr. and Lounelle Thomas Reese, Sisters and Brothers-in-Law, Latrelle Reese Puckett and J.B. Puckett, Hazel Reese Hambright and Frank Hambright, and Brother, David Reese.



He is survived by his Wife of 63 years, JoAnn Hughes Reese, Gainesville, Daughters and Sons-in-law, Lynn Reese Ingle and Ned Ingle, Anderson, SC, Kay Reese Walker and Chris Walker, Gainesville, Son and Daughter-in-Law, Rusty Reese and Cindy Turner Reese, Gainesville, Grandsons, Kit Walker, Ben Reese, Reese Walker, all of Gainesville, Granddaugther, Abbey Reese, Gainesville, Sister and Brother-in-Law, Sandy Reese Wilson and Tommy Wilson, Gainesville, and numerous nieces and nephews.



George was a native of Gainesville. He graduated from Gainesville High School previous to serving 4 years in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Mt. McKinley in the Pacific where atomic bomb testing was being conducted. After which he began his livelihood working for Milliken for 30 years and later retired from Lowe's. Most of his adult life he was a member and Sunday School Teacher at Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church though later he became active and faithful member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.



Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday February 20, 2014 in the Ward's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Boone Strickland will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



He was welcomed to his new home as promised. Life well lived. He will be sorely missed.
