Guy Edwards

Guy Edwards, 95, of Gainesville passed away Saturday February 1, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 4, 2014 at 3:00pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Haney officiating. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday February 3, 2014 from 6pm-8pm at the funeral home. The body will lie in state in the Chapel from 2:30-3:00 p.m.

Mr. Edwards was an honest, hardworking man, loved by family, friends, and all he met. He set a great example for his family with his commitment to God and family and has left a legacy that will last for generations.

Mr. Edwards was born August 19, 1918 to the late Al and Fannie Mae Edwards. Mr. Edwards served with the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa for 4 years. After serving with the Army Mr. Edwards was employed with Belks of Gainesville after that he also owned and operated the Pure Oil Service Station at corner of Broad St. and West Ave. for 9 years. Upon leaving the service station he became a well-known farmer in the Cattle Business, Guy loved his cattle and farming business.

Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Boyce Kesler Edwards, sister Lois E. Thomas, brothers Howard, and Parker Edwards.

He is survived by his only and beloved son and wife Ronnie and Dorothy Edwards, grandson and wife Clint and Angelique Edwards, granddaughter Jennifer Edwards, great grandsons Jeremiah, Elisha, and Isaiah Edwards all of Lawrenceville an uncle and wife James and Ellen Parker of Commerce, brother-in-law and wife John and Jeanette Kesler, of Gainesville, nieces and nephews Ricky, Debbie, Kay, Melinda, Kayla, and Jessica, Gene, Melissa, and Martha and their children.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Guy's memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
