Leona Carroll Whiten Smith

Mrs. Leona Carroll Whiten Smith, age 92, of Toccoa, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at The Clary Care Center in Toccoa.

Daughter of the late Johnny and Lavonia Kelley Carroll, she was born March 24, 1921 in Franklin County and lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was employed with Stephens County Hospital for a number of years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was twice married, first to Joe Whiten and second to Lewis Smith. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Meg Whiten Fulbright.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Connie and Tim Pearson of Westminster, SC; two sons and daughters-in-law Wallace and Kayren Whiten of Sky Valley, GA and Larry and Michele Whiten of Toccoa; six grandchildren Paige Whiten Lally and Dan Lally, Parker Davison Whiten, Ashley Whiten Krivsky and Emmett Krivsky, Richie Fulbright, Taz Buffington, Amanda and Wayne Crowley, and Morgan Holmes Whiten; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Stephens Memorial Gardens, Toccoa, GA, with Mr. Billy Wells officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service time.
