Jack "Pop" Atha, 81, of Sugar Hill, GA passed away on January 27, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Atha. He is survived by children, Rhonda and Jimmy Powell, Cumming, GA; Rick Atha, Sugar Hill, GA; Rusty Atha, Sugar Hill, GA; grandchildren, Jim Powell, Tyler, Texas; Amanda and Johnny Rizk, Cleveland, GA; Dustin Atha, Sugar Hill, GA; Ivey Atha, Lawrenceville, GA; sisters Vera Brodnax, Cora Clark, Juanita Justice, Yvonne Hurley, Faye Evans, and brother, Gerald and Martha Atha, Lawrenceville, GA. Mr. Atha was born June 9, 1932 in Lawrenceville, GA He was retired from North Gwinnett High school as head of maintenance after twenty-five years of service. He was a former coach and umpire of youth baseball, and girl's softball at North Gwinnett, and helped lead them to state championships. The North Gwinnett yearbook was once dedicated to him and he was inducted into the North Gwinnett High school Hall of Fame. He also served as Grand Marshall at one of the Buford City Parades. He loved fishing, NASCAR, and the Atlanta Braves. He adored his grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Friday, January 31, 2014 in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Buford, GA.
