George Urwin Metcalf Jr.

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. George Urwin Metcalf Jr, age 83 of Cleveland. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the funeral home chapel . Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.

George was born on March 8, 1930 in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late George Urwin Metcalf Sr. and Rebecca Reid Metcalf. He spent most of his adult life in West Palm Beach, graduating in 1949 from Palm Beach High School. George entered the United States Navy in 1951 and served with honor during the Korean Conflict, serving at the Key West Naval Station. Following his military service, George worked for Belcher Oil for a short time, and later for Florida Power and Light where he would he retire as an Engineer with over 30 years service. Those who knew George will remember him as a man who had a generous heart, quick wit and a kind spirit, he was also known as a man with a strong faith in God. George believed very strongly in the principles of Freemasonary and was a member the Northwood Lodge No. 303 F& AM (later to become Palmwood Lodge No.303 F&AM). Courteously presented by Mt. Yonah Lodge in Cleveland, George earned his 55 year service award from Palmwood Lodge No. 303 F&AM on October 29, 2012. After retiring in 1994, George and his wife, the former Miss Evelyn Ferguson, whom he married in 1952, moved to White County. George and Evelyn were active members of their community and their church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, Evelyn Metcalf of Cleveland, George is survived by his daughter, Lisa Metcalf; daughter and son in law, Kathleen Lorraine and Shawn Rich; son and daughter in law, Charles and Susan Metcalf; grandchildren, Matthew and Christa Grantham, Dakota Smith, John Henry Metcalf and Charles William Metcalf.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Rodeheaver Boys' Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Rd, Palatka FL 32177 and to Eagle Ranch, P.O.Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, Georgia 30502-0500.
