Mason James Cox

Obituary Date: Friday, January 10, 2014

Mason James Cox, 20, died January 10, 2014 as a result of an accidental drowning. He was born August 18, 1993 in Cumming, Georgia. He attended Dawson County schools and graduated from Dawson County High School in 2011. He proudly wore the #61 for the Tigers and gave it all to be the best football player he could be! His love of firefighting, and having volunteered for the Dawson County Fire Department, led him to get ready to start school this month at Lanier Technical College.

Mason is survived by his parents, Ronald James Cox of Dawsonville, Georgia and LeaAnne Wynn Cox of Navarre, Florida; his brother, Cody Walker Cox, Aviation Electronics Technician Third Class, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Dahlonega Funeral Home in Dahlonega. Visitation will be Friday, January 17, 3-5 p.m. The service to celebrate Mason's life will be held immediately after visitation at 5:00 p.m.

What a life Mason lived out during his short time here on earth! He had a passion for life unmatched by many. We are all in awe and humbled how the last few days of his life played out and that he had made the greatest decision of his 20 years on Sunday before he left us. We know that he spent the last 4 days of his life in a profound relationship with Christ and the comfort that brings us is immeasurable!

Mason . . . you were so loved! The stories are coming out of your laughter, your smile, your compassion, your jokes, your determination, your relationships, and so much more.

You were headed toward a full life filled with . . . as you put in your New Year's resolutions that we found:

Firefighting -- to fill that place in your heart to be a rescuer and a hero!

School -- to secure yourself for your future to be more self-reliant
