Charles Louis McKenzie, Jr.

Charles Louis McKenzie, Jr., age 77 of Gainesville, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend John Kinsey officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 1:00-3:00PM and 5:00-7:00PM at the funeral home.

Mr. McKenzie was born April 5, 1936 in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Charlie Louis McKenzie, Sr., and the late Bessie Alma James McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from the USDA as a Food Inspector and was a member of Harmony Hall Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Elizabeth Dean McKenzie and sister, Roselyn Sharman.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty McCrary McKenzie of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Renee Ivester McKenzie of Toccoa; daughter and son-in-law, Jennie and Philip Nelson of Gainesville; granddaughter and husband, Stashia and Jake Cheek of Clarkesville; grandson and wife, Zach and Caitlin McKenzie of Toccoa; grandson, Austin McKenzie of Toccoa; granddaughter, Maggie Nelson of Gainesville; grandson, Matthew Nelson of Gainesville; great-grandsons, Jacob and Joel Cheek; brother and sister-in-law, Cohen and Jewel McKenzie of Colquitt, GA and sister, Margaret Worthington of Brick, NJ.
