Mrs. Betty Jo Barnes Gaines age 74 of Gainesville passed away on Thursday January 9, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.


Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday January 12, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Steve Baker and Reverend Michael Wilkes will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 11, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gaines was born on March 20, 1939 in Gainesville, Ga to the late L.E. Barnes and Pauline Boatwright Barnes. She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Vera Springer, brother, James Barnes.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold Gaines of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Mike Buice of Flowery Branch, daughter and son-in-law, Deneen and Hoyt Winkler of Cleveland, grandson, Preston Buice of Flowery Branch, grand-daughter, Cierra Winkler of Clarkesville, grandson and wife, Cullen and Jessica Winkler of Gainesville, sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Hoover Truelove of Gainesville, sister and brother-in-law, Kloma and Roy Holland of Bonita Springs, FL, sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Joe Little of Gainesville, brother, Larry Barnes of Ecuador, and a number of nieces and nephews.
