Hiram Kelly McDonald

Mr. Hiram Kelly McDonald, age 70 of 112 Brookdale Road, Toccoa, Georgia entered his home eternal on New Year's Day, January 1, 2014.

Hiram was born July 25, 1943 in Greenwood, South Carolina, the seventh son of the late H. Otto, Sr. and Sarah McDonald being the tenth of eleven siblings. He graduated Easley High School and Greenville Technical College with a B.A. in Accounting. He was a former US Marine having served in Vietnam, was later part Owner and Vice-President of WLET AM & FM Radio Stations, Operations Manager of Northeast Georgia Waste and later Waste Management. More recently, he was employed with Pruitt & Associates in Toccoa. He retired December, 2013. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Otto McDonald, Jr., William McDonald, Charles McDonald and Doug McDonald and by a sister, Jane M. Turner.

Hiram was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Toccoa where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Youth Advisor and Adult Bible Class Teacher. He was a peacemaker that wanted everyone to be happy and have a good life. He was an avid golfer having organized many tournaments both locally and at the Dunes Country Club, Sanibel Island, Florida. He developed many life long friendships in these activities.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beth Black McDonald of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Viki McDonald of Toccoa, Georgia; grandsons, Seth and Simon McDonald of Toccoa, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Peggy McDonald of Charlotte, North Carolina, Thomas and Nancy McDonald of Clover, South Carolina and Wayne and Simone McDonald of Hilton Head, South Carolina; sisters, Dot Wrenn of Greenwood, South Carolina and Jo Jones of Taylors, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Betty McDonald of Greenwood, South Carolina, Florence McDonald of Liberty, South Carolina and Doris Ann Henry of Highlands, North Carolina; fifteen nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11 O'clock AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Toccoa with the Reverend David Keister officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the service time.

It was Hiram's request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Memorial Fund, c/o The First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 367, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in his memory.
