Nell Robinson Smalley

Obituary Date: Tuesday, December 24, 2013
Nell Robinson Smalley died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. on December 24, 2013. She was a native of Macon County and was the daughter of the late Alva and Lucille Robinson of Oglethorpe, GA.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters, her husband's Sam Griffin and Dr. Derrell Smalley; infant daughter, Debra Griffin and son, Sam Franklin Griffin.



She graduated from Georgia Southwestern College and Georgia State College for Women and came to Dublin right out of college to teach English at Dublin High School. She taught at Tennille High School and Lauren's County Schools. Widowed early in life, she ran a very successful pine plantation. She was an
artist and her paintings hung in homes throughout the country. She was a member of the Dublin Services League, the Dublin Association of Fine Arts and a member to the Dublin Lauren's Arts Council. She was a member of First Baptist Church.



She and her husband were world travelers and visited all the continents except Antarctica.



She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her daughters; Joan Griffin Fulmer and husband, Olin III
of Gainesville, Sally Smalley Bell and husband, Jack of Dahlonega; son, Derrell G. Smalley of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Sam Griffin of Todd, NC, Adam Griffin and wife Joanna of Macon, Olin Fulmer, IV and wife Ann of Gainesville, Griffin Fulmer and wife Cielle of Atlanta, Morgan Smalley Holley and husband Andrew of Stockbridge; great grandchildren, Hunter, Sam, Parker, Breck and Ruthie Griffin, Silas and Amos Holley and Elise and Adelyn Fulmer.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 12:00 Noon at Thigpen Family cemetery in Rockledge. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday,
from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 405 Bellevue Ave. Dublin, GA. 31021.
