Joe Robert Holt

Joe Robert Holt, age 82, of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Mr. Holt was born in Macon County, North Carolina on April 1, 1931, to the late Eugene and Clara Allman Holt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Traci Holt Owens, twin sister, Jean Owens and brother, Grady Holt. Mr. Holt attended Cornelia First Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deacon and was an enthusiastic Sunday School participant. He was a former member of N.E.G.A. Mountain Hiking Club, Nantahala Hiking Club, Soup Kitchen volunteer, Little Tennessee water Association (Macon County), and Habitat for Humanity (Macon County). Mr. Holt was a veteran of the United States Navy having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a professional firefighter having served as assistant fire chief in Clarkesville, Georgia for four years and formerly having served the citizens of Montgomery County, Maryland with 25 years of loyal and dedicated service.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mae M. Holt, Demorest; daughters, Tami H. Duncan, Walhalla, SC and Kelli H. Matthews, Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ricky Wilson, Mt. Airy, brother, Tom Holt, Tacoma, Washington; brother-in-law, Jesse Ray Owens, Clayton; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 pm, on Friday, December 27, 2013, at Cornelia First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Blaine Walker officiating.

The Holt family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the memorial service.
