Mr. John H. Barker died Tuesday December 2, 2013 peacefully at home. He was the son of the late Roscoe and Ruth Cox Barker of Dawsonville. He was born September 12, 1934.
Mr. Barker attended Dawsonville High School, and the University of Georgia where he received a B.S. degree in poultry science. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 34 years. Upon his retirement, he was again employed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture for 19 years. Mr. Barker persued his career in poultry as head of the Grading Branch in Georgia for most of his working time.
Mr. Barker is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clarence, Kimsey, Floyd, and James, sisters, Louvenia Stanford, Ethel Pugh and Annie Ruth Elliott.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patty Barker, sister, Carol Roper, sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Tommy Phillips, sister-in-law, Dorothy Nell Barker, all of Gainesville. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 6, 2013 at the Trinity Baptist Church. Rev. Chris Pope and Rev. Paul Wade will officiate. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Dawson County. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Thursday December 5, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 989 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville, Ga. 30504 or the American Heart Association.
