Lillian Ashford Hudgins

Lillian Ashford Hudgins passed away November 28th at Summer's Landing Assisted Living. She was 98 years old.
Lillian was a native Gainesvillian, born on April 3, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Mellie Clifford Pitchford and George Hamm Ashford, the widow of Albert White Hudgins, Sr. and the sister of the late Elizabeth Ashford Romberg. She graduated from Brenau College in 1936 where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. In 1966 she received her library science degree from The University of Georgia.
Lillian, who retired as the librarian of Lyman Hall School, began her teaching career at Riverbend School. There she met her future husband, Albert, who taught history and coached basketball. She was also a life-long member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMW and volunteering in the church library.
Lillian loved flowers and was a member of The Dogwood Garden Club, serving as its president, and was a certified flower show judge. She belonged to the Tallulah Falls Club, an organization that supported The Tallulah Falls School.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, Lillian was the epitome of a nurturer and giver. She is survived by four children; Nancy Hudgins Greene (David) of Atlanta, Albert White Hudgins, Jr.(Gwen) Gainesville, Alice Hudgins Connolly (Joe Carroll) Lilburn, Charles Ashford Hudgins (Carole) Gainesville, five grandchildren: Jonathan Patrick Greene (Lisa), Colin Ashford Greene (Brandi), Jennifer Hudgins Stowe (Jeff), Amy Hudgins Forrester (Josh), Sean Michael Connolly (Renee), Kristopher Charles Connolly, Alison Hudgins Odom (Brad), and Katie Hudgins Propes (Zach). She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Harrison and Avery Greene, Ally and Bo Roberts, Hunter and Marshall Forrester, Katherine Connolly, Aidan and Christian Connolly, and Katie and Taylor Stowe.
A memorial service is scheduled for Mrs. Hudgins on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gainesville First United Methodist Church Chapel. Dr. Terry Walton Officiating. Visitation will follow at the church after the memorial service.
