Mr. Jerry C. "Jake" English, age 74 of 190 Keri Lane, Athens, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 peacefully at his home.
He was the son of the late William Aubrey and Winnie Mae Norris English. He was also the stepson of Mary English of Augusta, Georgia. He was born December 24, 1938 in Stephens County, Toccoa, Georgia and was raised in the section called Cotton Mill Hill. He lived most of his life in Athens, Georgia. He was a graduate of Toccoa High School and attended Forrest College in Anderson, South Carolina which landed him a career at the University of Georgia Computer Center where he retired after many successful years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Mae Finley and a brother, Jimmy English.
Survivors include his wife, Carmen Urdanivia English; two daughters, Teresa Palmer (Mark) of Nicholson, Georgia and Sherri Lee (Gary) of Watkinsville, Georgia; son Brent English(Wendy) of Athens, Georgia. Jake had nine grandchildren, Jessica, Stacey, Blake, Abby, Ashleigh, Dustin, Paige, Marley, and John Mark. He also had three great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, JT and Everett and a brother Royce English (Terrie) of Martinez, Georgia.
Jake loved being around his family. To all his grandchildren he was best known as Papa Jake. Most friends remember the great times at the lake, a place where he could get away and enjoy the peacefulness of the water and surroundings. He loved Sunday NASCAR races and watching football games, especially the Georgia Bulldogs.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, December 1, at 2:00pm at the Callaway Building, State Botanical Garden of Georgia in Athens. Casual attire. All friends and family are invited to attend.
