Luise 'Lisa' Ulbrich
Obituary Date: Tuesday, November 19, 2013
The heavens shine more brightly as Luise "Lisa" Ulbrich, age 92, passed peacefully at home in Gainesville, GA after a period of declining health. She no doubt had a joyous reception by those family and friends who had passed before her and who celebrated her arrival.
Luise was preceded in death by her husband, Heinz Ulbrich, the well known master pastry chef of the once famous Anton's Restaurant on Broughton Street in downtown Savannah. Born in Neustadtlein, Germany, Luise was leaving home for the first time at the age of 33 when she met her husband-to-be on the Transatlantic voyage when they both immigrated to America in 1954. Luise worked as a governess for the family of the late Chauncey Devereaux Stillman of New York City before marrying in 1955 and ultimately settling in Savannah, which she would call her home for 47 years before moving to Gainesville in 2004 to live with her daughter. An accomplished seamstress and dressmaker, she was always in great demand and yet her most memorable qualities were the loving and gentle kindness that she graciously heaped on family and friends.
Mrs. Ulbrich is survived by her children of she and her husband, Susan U. Allen and her husband, Dr. Charles Allen of Gainesville, Georgia; Dr. Peter Ulbrich of Atlanta; Gert Ulbrich of Atlanta; Vera Wolf of Germany and many grandchildren and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Chippy, who was forever by her side.
A private family memorial service and celebration of her life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made instead to the Hall County Animal Shelter at 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30507 in memory of their mother.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.
