Rosa M. Wren

Obituary Date: Monday, November 18, 2013

Rosa Malone Wren lived a full life and will be greatly missed by many family members, friends and care-givers. Over her life she was first a daughter (born July 15, 1925) to Buford and Angie Malone of Monticello, Ga. She was a wonderful sister to Sarah, B.G. and Bill. Although she grew up in rural Georgia where a woman attending college was not a given, she graduated from Georgia State College for Women (she called it Georgia's Sweetest Collection of Women). Next, she taught high school Home Ec and Biology in Sparta, Ga, where she also served as faculty advisor to the cheerleaders. She later worked for many years as a social worker for DFACS in Warren and McDuffie counties.

A sweetheart and eventually a wife to the love of her life, Euell Wren. They were married on Christmas Day 1949. One year later she was a mother to the first of her 2 sons, Billy, and 6 years later, Greg. She was a Sunday School teacher in the First Baptist Church of Warrenton, Ga, later moving membership to First Baptist Church of Thomson, Ga. She was a mother-in-law to Sherry and Ellen. A widow too young when Euell died in 1979. Six months later she found new purpose as a grandmother and was known as Hodie by eventually 5 grandchildren, Chris, Matt, Jenny, Annie and Becca.

She was a cancer survivor and a long-suffering victim of Alzheimer's. More than anything though, she was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Whenever she faced a challenge or problem, she turned to her faith and prayed for strength, wisdom, perseverance or whatever the situation required. Although she is no longer with us, she touched many lives and leaves many legacies, but none more important than this.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday November 20, 2013 at the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson, Ga. The Rev. Shon Peppers will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested the memorial contributions be made to Emory's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 1841 Clifton Road, Suite 303, Atlanta, GA 30329.
