Bomar Amos Olds, Jr., age 86 of Cornelia, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Dr. Bomar Amos Olds, Sr. and Gabriella Lanier Freeman Olds. Mr. Olds grew up in Atlanta, where he attended E. Rivers Elementary School. His secondary education was at Georgia Military Academy in College Park where he graduated in 1944. He served in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II, during which service he was in the Naval V-5 program at Duke University. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1946 he entered Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. After two years he transferred to Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in order to pursue a degree in his chosen field, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in textiles in 1950.
He was employed in various capacities in the textile and related industries in Habersham County until his retirement in 1990. During his years in the textile field he served for a year on the faculty in the School of Textiles at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. At the time of his retirement he was Personnel Manger of Scovill Fasteners, Inc. in Clarkesville.
During retirement he served with the Habersham County Senior Center as Coordinator of the County Home Delivered Meals program "Meals on Wheels." Due to failing health he resigned his position in 1998.
He became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cornelia in 1953. He served as a Deacon and later as an Elder. He also served in many other capacities in the church including: Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, choir member, missions, outreach and service committee member, and newsletter editor.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Catharine Pritchett Olds; daughter, Elizabeth Olds Lively; siblings, Dr. Robert Freeman Olds and Alice Olds Kubitz.
He is survived by his second wife, Yvonne Berrong Olds of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Catharine Olds Abbott and Jack Abbott of Clarkesville; sister, Gillian "Jill" Olds Growney of Union City; sister-in-law, Shirley Brown Olds Greer of Atlanta; brother-in-law, Saul Kubitz of Eatonton; son-in-law, Ted Lively of Martin; several niece and nephews also survive.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Monday, November 18, 2013, at Cornelia First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Blaine Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Georgia National Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6 pm Sunday.
