Henry Eugene 'Gene' Bates

Henry Eugene "Gene" Bates, age 78 of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.


Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Scott Waters, Reverend Danny Miller and Reverend Larry Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 2 - 4 and 5 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Bates was born November 3, 1935 in Danielsville, Georgia to the late Henry Bates and Vonie Sailors Bates. He was a retired Plumber and a member of Community Baptist Church. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Collier Bates, Hoyt Bates, Theron Bates and Guy Bates and his sisters, Lucille Lyles, Myrtle Lee Gillespie and Georgia Goodson.

Mr. Bates is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonice McNeal Bates of Gainesville, daughter & son-in-law, Denise & Kahana Sizemore of Dayton, Tennessee, grandsons, Kahana Albert Sizemore and Matthew Sizemore, both of Dayton, Tennessee, sisters, Ida Mae Henderson of Kanapolis, North Carolina and Melba Andrews of Lenoir, North Carolina, a number of nieces and nephews and special family, Larry & Glenda Davis and Paul & Ashley Davis.
