Ray Edgar Lawrence

Mr. Ray Edgar Lawrence, 80, of Gainesville, Ga. passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013.

Born on August 13, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He went to Seminole High School and attended the University of Colorado where he earned a degree in Pharmacy. He was the son of the late Paul and Eva Lou Alpers Lawrence. Ray married Lynda Irene Lee on April 20, 1957.

Ray purchased Cochran Pharmacy in Gainesville in 1965 and later renamed it Lawrence Pharmacy. Ray loved his profession and helping those in need. He did not hesitate to open his pharmacy during closed hours or holidays to fill a prescription.



Rays other activities included his deaconship at Lakewood Baptist Church. He was also a board member of the Gainesville City Schools, the Gainesville Boys Club and the Guest House. After his retirement, he was a pharmacy volunteer at the Good News Clinic.



Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynda Lee Lawrence of Gainesville; daughters and sons in law, Melody L. and John Elliott, Melinda L. and Bill Smith; grandchildren, Tracy Haynes Giles and husband Josh, Emily Haynes and Collin L. Burns.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 6, 2013 at the Lakewood Baptist Church. Dr. Tom Smiley and Dr. Jerry Gill will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Tuesday November 5, 2103 from 3-5 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Lawrence will lie in state at the church on Wednesday, from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Lakewood Baptist Church 2235 Thompson Bridge Rd. Gainesville, GA 30501.
