Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mrs. Velma Saddell Crawford, age 99 of Clermont. Mrs. Crawford passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00am, Saturday, November 2, 2013 from the First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland with Rev. Andy Chambers officiating. Entombment will be held on Sunday at 3:00pm in the Hillendale Cemetery in Lithonia.
Velma was born in Smithfield, Ohio on September 24, 1914 to the late James Mehollin and Mae Kitchcart Mehollin. She was raised on the family farm in Ohio where she dug coal to heat the house, raised and canned vegetables and milked cows. Until high school, she rode her horse to a one room schoolhouse, she and her sister would even race their horses at the local fair. In 1932, Velam graduated high school and later graduated from the Alliance Hospital Training School. It was on her first day as a nurse, that Velma met Charles Ditson "C.D." Crawford. He would become her loving husband, a relationship that would last 52 years, until his death in 1991.
Velma has two children, Jim and wife Virginia live in Clermont, Jane and her husband Wayne Myer reside in Golden, CO.
Her grandchildren include Diane, Ryan and Sheila, Tammy and Jamie, James and Jill, Martha and Carlton and Crawford and Amy. Her great grandchildren include, Brandon, Samantha, Kevin and Reagan as well as Julia and Emma, Zachary and Lilli, Rylee, Bryce and Dane, Maston, Ainsley and M.J.
Flowers will be acknowledged, however it it requested that memorial donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland, 147 N. Main St., Cleveland, Georgia 30528
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8pm
