Gene A. Bayer Sr

Mr. Gene A. Bayer Sr., age 86 of Strasburg, Ohio, passed away after a long, courageous battle on October 24, 2013 in Buford, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Carrie Bayer; brothers, Harold Bayer and Maurice Bayer; sister, Althea Schilling. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Bayer of Buford, Georgia; brother, Dale (Anna Mary) Bayer of New Philadelphia, Ohio; son, Gene Bayer, Jr., of Oakley, California; daughter Vicki Bayer, of Buford, Georgia; grandson, Robert (Susan) Milliken of Columbia, Alabama; granddaughters, Stacey (Steven) Crain of Johns Creek, Georgia, Beth (Charles) Goldizen of Roebuck, South Carolina and Valarie Bayer of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; great grandson Aaron Milliken of Helena, Alabama; great granddaughter, Erika Milliken of Auburn, Alabama; great grandson, Ethan Shoup of Johns Creek, Georgia; great granddaughter Sophie Crain of Johns Creek Georgia; and great-great grandson, Ryder Allen Taylor of Helena, Alabama. Mr. Bayer was born October 10, 1927 in Strasburg, Ohio. He was a 1945 graduate of Strasburg-Franklin High School in Strasburg, Ohio. Immediately after graduation in 1945, he served his country in the Navy and Navy Reserves for twelve years. Mr. Bayer is a member of the Tuscarawas County Baseball Hall of Fame. Gene retired from the Hoover Company in North Canton, Ohio in February of 1991. His retirement years were spent camping, hunting and fishing. Fulfilling Gene's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
