Hugh T. Atkinson

Hugh T. Atkinson, age 94 passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his home in Flowery Branch, GA.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. Cory Ingold and Rev John Roark will officiate. Interment will follow in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The Family will receive Friends Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Hugh is survived by his wife, Opal Atkinson. Twin Daughters and Sons In-law, Jane and Pete Alexander, Jeanne and David Hale, Granddaughter, Courtney L. Arya. Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Hugh served as part of the Greatest Generation as an officer in the US Air Force. He was a pilot flying a B 17 in Europe during WWII and was held as a Prisoner Of War for a year. After the war he was a pilot during the Berlin Airlift. He retired from the Air Force with over 21 years of service. He had a second career as a professor at Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and Gainesville College. After that he was a gentleman farmer, farming the land he loved in Flowery Branch.
