James E. 'Jug' Adams
Obituary Date: Sunday, October 20, 2013
James E. "Jug" Adams passed peacefully from this life to his eternal reward in Heaven on Sunday, October 20, after a brief illness. He was born to Troy & Velma (England) Adams in Tucker, GA, where he grew up, graduating from Tucker High School in 1944. Drafted into the army in 1945, Jug was soon on a troup transport ship en route to join McArthur's Expeditionary Force in the Pacific for the invasion of Japan. The ship crossed the International Date Line on V-J Day, and Jug was diverted to the Philippines, where he served 18 months.
Jug married Carmen Blalock of Rome, GA on May 23, 1949. They were married for almost 56 years, until Carmen's death on May 22, 2005. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Adams of Suwanee, GA and Pam Tison (and her husband, Eddie) of Newport News, VA, grandsons Adam Satterfield (and grandaughter-in-law Colleen Trickett) and Trey Tison, grandaughter Brannon Tison and great grandaughter Isla Trickett-Satterfield (aka "Jugalina"), along with numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with three sisters--Margaret Adams, Mary Morgan and Miriam Smith, and one brother, Hugh Adams.
After his military service, Jug worked at Atlanta Gas Light and Swift Meats before settling into a long career in the poultry business, first with Cagle's, Inc. for 24 years ending in 1982, and then with Bird-In-Hand Farms until his retirement in 1995. He was active in the industry, serving a term as President of the Georgia Poultry Federation and the National Poultry and Food Distributors Association. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church since 1964.
Jug never met a stranger, and leaves behind many friends and former business associates. Particularly special to Jug in his retirement years have been the "breakfast clubs" at both the Family Restaurant in Duluth and the Hardee's in Buford, along with the Tuesday morning Bible study at Old Hickory in Tucker.
Jug's family is grateful to all of his friends who have been so good to him, especially in the years since Carmen's death. A special thanks goes to Debbie Wagner of Loving Care Senior Concierge and Jug's special angel, Natalie Walker, for taking such great care of Jug and helping him to enjoy his life to the fullest right to the end.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to "Loving Care Senior Concierge," at 5935 River Rush Ct., Sugar Hill, GA 30518.
