Henry Garland (Whit) Nicholson

Funeral services for Henry Garland "Whit" Nicholson, age 90 of Clarkesville will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from the Hills Crossing Baptist Church. Rev. Walter Singletary, Rev. Terry Rice, and Rev. Furman Lewis will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mr. Nicholson died Thursday, October 17, 2013 following a period of declining health.

Born on June 24, 1923 in Habersham County, Mr. Nicholson was the son of the late Lawrence and Effie Nichols Nicholson. Mr. Nicholson was a United States Navy Veteran having served during WWII. While in the Navy he served in the American and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters aboard the SS Richard Ewell and SS Aberdeen Victory ships. He was retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company. Mr. Nicholson was a deacon and member of Hills Crossing Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nicholson is preceded in death by his wife Maude Irene Blair Nicholson.

Survivors include sons and daughters in law Bruce and Brenda Nicholson of Demorest and Stacy and Carol Nicholson of Portland, Oregon, sister Betty Ferguson of Alto, grandchildren Matt, Ben, Andrew, Caroline, and John, as well as five great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
