Gladys Yvonne Garrett

Mrs. Gladys Yvonne (Vonzie) Garrett age 75 of Cleveland passed away Friday, October 04, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Vonzie was born on July 5th, 1938 to the late Harvey Burton Adams and Beulah Wilkins Adams of Sautee, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband Calvin Garrett Sr. sisters, Verdie Matheson, Mary Pilkington, Elene York, Regina Matheson, Stella McCray, Emma Nell Adams, Ann Campbell and one brother, John Henry Adams.

Vonzie retired from Truett McConnell College in Cleveland, but her work as Nanny, Mama, Aunt Vonzie, confidant and friend continued in the community until her passing. While employed at TMC, she anonymously sponsored several young ladies throughout their education at TMC. She was a member at Cleveland Worship Center and the Shoal Creek Ladies Goodwill Circle. She loved her God, Church, family and friends, gardening, cooking and helping others. Some of the happiest times remembered by many family and friends were in her kitchen. Everyone knew her house was the place to be for great food, fun and fellowship.

Vonzie leaves behind her daughter, Henrietta Becker, Cleveland; daughters and sons in law, Donna and Joe Barnes, Gainesville, Crystal and Mike Blalock, Cleveland; son and daughter in law, Bo and Jessica Garrett, Cleveland; grandchildren, Isaiah and Ashley Mealor, Alex Blalock, Courtney Blalock, Dylan Hendrix, Cooper John Garrett, all of Cleveland, Tommy Becker, Melbourne, FL, Glenn Becker, Jacksonville, FL.
