William Phillip 'Bill' Sands

Funeral services for William Phillip "Bill" Sands, age 79 of Clarkesville will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from the Hillside Memorial Chapel. Rev. Tommy Stowe will officiate with interment to follow the service in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sands died October 1, 2013 following a period of declining health.

Born on April 2, 1934 in Lanett, Alabama, Mr. Sands was the son of the late T.C. and Mary Emma Weldon Sands. After graduating from high school Mr. Sands attended Young Harris College where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He later graduated with his B.A. from Piedmont College and his Masters degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Sands was a teacher in the Habersham County School System. After retiring, he has worked various part time jobs until his health started declining in 2010. In addition to his parents Mr. Sands is preceded in death by daughter Jeannie Sands, brothers Robert Charles Sands and Fred Sands, and sisters Keron Sands and Jackie S. Newsome.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Florence Whisenant Sands of Clarkesville, son Phillip "Phil" Sands of Helen, sister Susan Tingle (Phillip). Nieces Laura and Cinthia and nephew Robert "Bobby" Sands.
