Kenneth Wayne Pennington

Obituary Date: Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Kenneth Wayne Pennington, age 80 (1933-2013), went home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 2, 2013.

His loving and devoted wife of almost four decades, Linda Ward Pennington of Clarkesville, Georgia, survives him. After retiring, both Ken and Linda left their IBM careers to experience a more casual lifestyle together. Moving to Georgia from Texas in 1989, Ken and Linda owned and refurbished the historical Toombs-Bleckley House of Jefferson Street in Clarkesville. Their home was opened to various Christian ministries to enjoy, as they quickly became a part of the local community and made many long-lasting friends in the surrounding area.

Kenneth joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and became very familiar with the B52 Bomber planes which led to a lifetime career with IBM as an Electrical Engineer. He contributed to various IBM programs such as the IBM-NASA Apollo & Saturn missile program in the 1960's. Office computer systems eventually came into focus before his retirement as Advisory Engineer and Consultant, but his most enjoyable careers years were spent serving his country while working on the IBM B52 Digital Bomb Navigation System.

In 1992, Mr. Pennington became a co-founder of True Bread Ministries, Inc. Working with his "Son in the Lord", Rev. Mark K. Akinosho, Ken served as Treasurer of the True Bread Prayer and Evangelism Ministry and served on the Board of Trustees emeritus, being very instrumental in planting the Truebread Fellowship Church in Sanford, NC.

Being an active member of Helen First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, and being a devout prayer warrior, Ken also served several years as Co-Director of the church's thriving Prayer Ministry along with his wife Linda.

Ken is survived by his wife Linda Ward Pennington of Clarkesville, six sons: Steven Pennington (Jackie) of Winchester, VA; Kim Ward (Robin) of Longwood, Fl; Toby Ward (Lisa) of Cherry Valley, AR; Lee Ward of Antelope, CA; Marce Ward (Paula) of the Colony, TX and Mark K. Akinosho (Caroline). His daughters are Laura Howell (David) of Fayetteville, TN; Lisa Polk of Capon Bridge, WV; and Janet Lewis (Ladd) of Huntsville, AL; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also listed are his brother Don Pennington (Joan) of Baton Rouge, LA; and Kay Batson (Jim) of Georgetown, TX.

Deceased are his parents Archie and Syble Pennington of Austin, TX and sister, Ann Stone of Covington, TX.

Services will be held to celebrate and honor Mr. Pennington's life and devotion to Jesus Christ at Helen First Baptist Church on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM with viewings at Hillside Memorial Chapel Funeral Home on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 2
