Martha Banks Gaddis

Martha Banks Gaddis, age 82 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 1, 1931, and she lived most of her early years there, graduating from North Fulton High School and Weslyan College in Macon, Georgia. She later lived in Montgomery, Alabama and Laurel, Mississippi, where she and her husband, Bob were very involved in the Presbyterian Church and many civic activities in each of those cities, including The Girl Scouts, The Laurel Garden Club, Bay Flower Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and The Lauren Rogers Museum. Martha was named the Junior Auxiliary of Laurel's Humanitarian of the Year in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Chesnut Banks and Ernest Lee Banks and her husband, Robert Smith Gaddis. She is survived by her three children, Bert Gaddis (Susan) of Birmingham, Alabama; Amy Singletary (Scott) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and Meg Racanelli (Mike) of Forest, Virginia. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Patrick Singletary, Lia and Stephen Racanelli, Robert and James Gaddis; her sister, Beverly Boland of Gainesville, Georgia and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:30 am EDT in the Chapel of Lanier Village Estates, 4000 Village View Drive, Gainesville, Georgia 30506, followed by a memorial service celebrating Martha's life at 11:30 am EDT. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway, NW, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328 at 3:00 pm EDT.
