George C. Dobbs, Jr.,

George Calvin Dobbs, Jr., 83 of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 23, 2013, at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Gainesville. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the funeral home. The Reverend Bruce Fields will officiate.

Born in Gainesville, August 13, 1930, he was the son of the late George Calvin Dobbs, Sr. and Winnie Bagwell Dobbs. Mr. Dobbs was a graduate of Gainesville High School where he excelled in football and went on to play at the University of Georgia from 1948-1951. He also played two seasons with the US Army at Fort Jackson, SC. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict then continued his service as a member of the Army Reserve.

Mr. Dobbs was a partner in the Turner Dobbs Agency and a certified Life Underwriter. He was president of the American Society of CLU, the President of the Georgia Association of Life Underwriters and held many other offices within his Insurance field. He was Chairman of the Salvation Army Board, coached little league football, refereed for high school football in North Georgia, served on the advisory board in Young Life, president of METRO Kiwanis, active member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville and also served in many other local organizations.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lancaster Dobbs; children, Michael C. Dobbs (Robin), Kimberly D. Adams (John), Kellin B. Dobbs (Kim); sister, Georgia Beth Dobbs Kite of Rome, GA; 9 grandchildren, Erin, Suzanne, Kate, and Michael Dobbs; Brenden, Brian and Alicia Adams; Davis and Drake Dobbs; and 3 great-grandchildren.
