Annette B. Rougeou

Obituary Date: Sunday, September 15, 2013
Annette B. Rougeou, age 74, passed away peacefully at her home on September 15, 2013.

She was born in Bryzeland, Louisiana, the third of four children, on December 7, 1938 to Roy A. and Wilma F. Boone. She was a graduate of Lecompte High School, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA., where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, serving as chapter president. She was also a member of the Northwestern State University Hall of Fame. Upon graduation from college with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education in 1961, she began a teaching career. She earned a Master's Degree in Education from Georgia State University in 1978, and an AS-5 certificate in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Georgia shortly after.

During her career of 30 years, she served as a classroom teacher, career education resource teacher, instructional lead teacher, Instructional Coordinator, Assistant Curriculum Director, and Director of Staff Development. She served the majority of her tenure in Dekalb and Gwinnett County School Systems. She also was president of the Georgia Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development in 1995-1996.

Annette married her husband John T. Rougeou (JT) of Alexandria, Louisiana on August 19, 1961 in Glenmora, Louisiana. Throughout her life she was known for her warm personality, quick wit, fun sense of humor, graceful beauty, enduring strength, and kind generosity. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and close friends. She felt blessed to have visited most areas of the country she loved so much, as well as many countries in North America, South America and Europe. She was also a member of Nacoochee United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees, Soque Garden Club, and Skylake Red Hatters.

After retirement she returned to her childhood love of painting. When she and JT moved to the mountains of north Georgia in 1998 she began volunteering in the Center Gallery of the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association (SNCA). She took many art classes and workshops in oil painting which was her favorite medium. Her warmest memories of this time were times shared with her friends in art class, and trips taken abroad with art groups to paint the landscapes of Italy and France. She served on the board of the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association. Her paintings have been shown in The Center Gallery at SNCA and the Helen Arts and Heritage Center where she was a "featured artist" for selected shows. She was a participant in the 12 Rivers Art Festival in Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, and won several awards for her work. She was selected "Fellow-of-the-Year" by the Art Studio of SNCA in 2007.

While she loved traveling, cooking, gardening, music and reading, it was spending time with her family that brought her the most joy. Her family will forever hold dear the precious memories that they share with her in their hearts. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, JT Rougeou, and two daughters: Kimberly Kahle (David) of Austin, TX, and Allison Schmidt (Jeff) of Richmond, VA., grandchildren: Boone Baker of Austin, TX, Samantha Baker of Austin, TX, Madeline Schmidt of Richmond, VA, and Liam Schmidt of Richmond, VA, a sister, Eva Parks of Monroe, LA., a sister-in-law, Billie Boone of Alexandria, LA., brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Henry and Minnie Rougeou of Alexandria, LA., and Robert and Teri Rougeou of Tampa, FL., as well as many nieces and nephews.
