James S. Norris

James S. Norris, age 82 of Gainesville, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.


Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Phil Carpenter and Reverend Earl Gilstrap will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Norris was born January 3, 1931 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late James David Norris and Ollie Clementine Wade Norris. He served in the U. S. Marine and retired from Wallis Asphalt Company with 40 years of service. James was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.

Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nell Gilstrap Norris of Gainesville, daughter, Kathy Orr of Cumming, daughter & son-in-law, Kay & Tim Watkins of Marietta, son, David Norris of Gainesville, grandchildren, Chris Orr, Aundrea Bailey, James Watkins, Ian Wages, Brittany Smith, Ashley Norris and Amanda Norris, 4 great-grandchildren, sisters & brothers-in-law, Sybil & Johnny Smith of Gainesville and Pauline & Tommy Adkins of Gainesville, sister, Joyce Echols of Lula and brother & sister-in-law, Wiley & Lorene Norris of Braselton.
