Luther Eugene 'Gene' English

Luther Eugene "Gene" English, age 96, of Clarkesville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013.



Mr. English was born on May 16, 1917, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late David Luther and Jessie Bishop English. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mize English. Gene was a United States Navy Veteran having proudly served his country during World War II. Mr. English held a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia. He was a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed wood working, landscaping, and gardening. Gene was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church and Woodman of the World.



Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa English and Frank Dean, Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jan English, Laguna Niguel, CA; sister, Thelma English King, Decatur; grandchildren, David and Sloan Dean, and Sarah and Andrew English; and great-grandchildren, Leslie Dean and Sloan Franklin Dean, IV.



Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Grady Walden officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Georgia National Guard, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.



The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.
