Willis Hopkins

Willis Hopkins, 86, of Dawsonville, passed away Monday August 19, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Mr. Hopkins was born in Marion, Ohio on March 9, 1927 to the late Aaron and Martha Hopkins. A member of Harmony Baptist Church, he had resided in the Dawsonville/ Dahlonega area for 25 years. Mr. Hopkins was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and retired from the U.S. Navy Seabees after more than 24 years of military service. He is preceded in death by a son, David Willis Hopkins, six brothers, and three sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mary Margaret Hopkins, Tecumseh, Michigan; children, Carolyn and Don Smith, Marion, Ohio, Pat and Greg Betz, Marion, Ohio, Donna and Jim Honeycutt, Medina, Tennessee, Jacki and Gary Cromwell, Adrian, Michigan, Deb and Jim Shoap; brother and sister in law, Henry Harrison and Juanita Hopkins, Breckenridge, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hopkins' final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. The family is planning private memorial services.
