Pernell Taylor Smith

Mrs. Pernell Taylor Smith, age 87 of Demorest, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Habersham Medical Center.


Born on January 21, 1926, in Coker Creek, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late John Presley and Florence Essie Dodgens Taylor. Mrs. Smith was a retired hospital cook from Habersham County Medical Center. She enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family. Mrs. Smith was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church, where her church membership was the longest of any current female.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by her husband, Grady C. Smith; granddaughter, Kasey Dawn Smith; brothers, Alfred, Lawrence, Gordon, William, Grover, and Charles Taylor; sisters, Dallas Coker, Grace Walker, Thanie Tilley, Ruth Penley, Lizzie Kelley, Florence Marsengill and Margie Deaton; also two infant siblings.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gene & Janie Smith of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Myra & Lloyd, Jr. Nix of Demorest and Betty & Charles VanZant of Acworth; sister, Novia Pilgrim of Gastonia, NC; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.


Funeral services are 11:00 am Friday, August 23, 2013, at Fairfield Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Allison and Rev. Ricky Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Thursday.
