Helen Floyd Edmund

Helen Floyd Edmund, age 88, of Atlanta passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013.



Born December 14, 1924 in Olanta, SC, Helen was the daughter of Clayton Floyd and Lula Cockfield. She graduated from Florence High School Class of 1941. She came to Atlanta in 1942 and worked with the W. C. Shepherd Construction Co. in the building of the Atlanta Airport. Helen graduated from Atlanta Law School in 1947 with a JD degree while working with the Smythe-Gambrell Law Firm and later was a Claims Professional and Business Executive for Southeastern Adjusters. Being a founding member of the Buckhead Business and Professional Women's Club, Helen pioneered and promoted women's roles in the business and professional world. In 1948 she married George A. Edmund.



She is survived by her daughter and son in law; Francine and Steven Porter of Denver, CO; sons and daughters in law; Bruce and Virginia Edmund of Roswell, GA, Pat and Linda Edmund of Cumming, GA; grandchildren George Patrick Edmund, Jr. and Ashley Edmund both of Cumming and Tara Edmund of Richmond, VA.



Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23, at 11:30 a.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Allen Grady and Dr. G. Gil Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.



The family will receive friends in the church parlor 30 minutes prior to the service.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any veteran's organization.
