Martha Alliene Smith Jones passed away peacefully at her home on Wolf Creek Road in Lakemont, Georgia, Saturday, August 10th, 2013.
Alliene was born at her parent's home in the Wolf Creek community December 19, 1925. She was the daughter of DJ and Flora West Smith. She was the widow of John R. Jones.
Alliene graduated from Lakemont High School in 1941. She then attended Rabun Gap- Nacoochee School Junior College in Rabun Gap where she graduated in 1943. The school, at that time, offered a two year college program. After school she moved to Atlanta where she worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company. She later returned to Rabun County where she worked for Doxol Gas Company and Stephens Federal Bank. Alliene was a very active member of The Clayton Woman's Club and was a charter member of The Clayton Pilot Club holding various positions with both organizations. For over 20 years she thoroughly enjoyed the company of her "Lunch Bunch" friends on a monthly luncheon basis. Her love for flowers, crafting and sewing brought her many hours of enjoyment and wonderful "surprise gifts" to all her friends and family. She was a lifelong member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church.
Alliene was proceeded in death by her sister, Shannon Smith Jarrett; she is survived by her brother, Jack Smith (Lillian) of Lakemont; niece, Gail Hopper (Rodney) of Lakemont; niece, Tina Johnson of Fayetteville, Georgia; niece by marriage, Cami Hopper of Clayton, Georgia; nephews: Dale Jarrett (Kathy) of Calhoun, Georgia; Todd Jarrett (Jane) of Canton, Georgia; Kirk Jarrett (Jennifer) of Calhoun, Georgia; great niece(s) and nephew(s), Dianna Johnson, Danielle Johnson, Kayla Jarrett, Kelsey Jarrett, Luke Jarrett, Maddie Jarrett, DJ Jarrett, Kate Jarrett, Zack Hopper, Adam Hopper and Ashton Hopper.
Services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Beck Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the service to begin at 2:00 p.m with Pastor Larry Cannon officiating. Burial will be in the Wolf Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family believes Alliene would appreciate donations made to The Rabun County Library, 73 Jo Dotson Circle, Clayton, Georgia 30525; or The Wolf Creek Cemetery Fund, 3059 E. Wolf Creek Road, Tiger, GA 30576.
