Madeleine Flora Martin Cabana, age 85 of Cleveland, died August 11 after a brief illness.
A Rosary service is scheduled for 2:00pm, Monday, August 12, 2013 at Alexander Funeral Home . Visitation will follow from 4 to 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at 1:30 pm at
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove, NC with Father Scott McCue officiating. Burial following in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Mrs. Cabana was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on August 25, 1927, one of 15 children of the late Albert O. & Isabelle Lataille Martin of Woonsocket. She was the widow of the late Alfred O. Cabana. Madeleine and Al were married for 49 years before his death in June, 1998.
Mrs. Cabana is survived by her children & grandchildren: 2 daughters and sons-in- law, Carolyn & Kirby Stevens of Grantham, NC; Christine and Louis Minutello of Cleveland; and her son and daughter-in-law Charles & Ann Cabana of Cleveland; granddaughter Dawn Stevens Cox and husband Jimmy, of Mount Olive, NC, and her grandsons Adam Stevens and wife Leslie of Princeton, NC and Christopher Tench of Cleveland; her great-grandchildren Matthew, Melissa and Monica Cox and Alexandria & William Stevens. Step grandchildren include Michelle Minutello, Angela Minutello, Tony Minutello, Christen Lash and Stephanie Veetesse, Mrs. Cabana is also survived by her 8 step great grandchildren
Madeleine is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger & Lorraine Martin & Edmund Martin of Woonsocket, RI; Raymond & Mickey Martin, FL and sister Corrine Martin of Woonsocket, RI. She is preceded in death by brothers and sisters; Leon Martin, Aldea Martin, Irene Martin, Omer Martin, Lucien Martin, Leo Martin, Beatrice M. Plouffe, Lucille M. Acquisto, Susanne Martin & Pauline Prizynski.
Mrs. Cabana was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church from the time she and her family moved to Cleveland in 1968. Live long Catholics, the Cabana's were one of the founding families of St. Paul back when Mass was held in a small house behind their home on Underwood Street. For years, Mrs. Cabana enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the St. Paul Food Pantry & the Community Thrift Store in Cleveland.
Madeleine also loved playing cards. The fellowship she found in her bridge club was a great joy in her life. But most important to her was her Catholic faith and her family. To those who loved and cared for her, Madeleine leaves the legacy of her strong faith in God, her devotion and love of family and many memories of a happy, well-lived life.
