Amos Roger Williams

Mr. Amos Roger Williams, age 78, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 08, 2013, at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia April 17, 1935, the only child of the late Amos and Nancy Estella (Wilson) Williams. Roger graduated from Gainesville High School then served in the U.S. Army as a SP4 E-4 from 1958-1960. An ordained minister, Roger preached and was a professional truck driver. Roger was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and preached in prison ministries. Roger also enjoyed going to gospel singings and revivals. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Regina Murphy Williams and his second wife, Joyce Knight Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Mae Williams of Jefferson, GA daughter and son-in-law, Valeria and Jacky Mathis of Clermont, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Lee Williams, of Edgewater, FL and Ernest and Elisha Williams of Monroe, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Valencia and Joe Jackson of Gainesville, GA and Rhonda and Bobby Wheeler of Bethlehem, GA; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The Reverend Phil Carpenter and Dr. Joe Jackson will officiate. The family will receive friends 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, August 9, 2013 at the funeral home.
