Herbert P. Jones

Herbert P. Jones, age 96, of Hiawassee, formerly of Duluth, died Sunday, August 4, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel, with Rev. Lamar Hansard officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Duluth.

Mr. Jones was born in Duluth and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He worked for General Motors and later retired from L.B. Foster Co. as a rail inspector after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a farmer and along with his brother Willie Jones, had built the first nine holes of the Berkeley Hills Golf Course.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Robina Wilson Jones, and is survived by his second wife, Myrtle Jones; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Martha Jones of Gainesville, FL and Lee and Cindi Jones of Duluth; five grandchildren, Robert and Candace Jones, Derek and Heather Jones, Matt Jones, Michelle Jones and Sarah Spalvins; four great grandchildren, Chloe Jones, Alyssa Jones, Cade Jones and McKenna Jones.
