On July 17, 2013, Col. (Ret.) Maynard Brown, Jr., 76, of Hampton, VA entered into eternal rest peacefully with his bride of 53 years, Mary L. Brown by his side at the North Hampton Rehab Center, Todds Lane, Hampton, Virginia.
Maynard Brown, Jr. was the oldest of three children born to the late Maynard (Yank) Brown, Sr. & the former Essie Mae Williams. He was Gainesville's first African American Officer to be commissioned in the United States Army at the Avion Restaurant. Maynard Brown Jr. served in the Army from 1960 until his retirement at Fort Monroe, Virginia in 1977. He received his B.S. from Tuskegee Institute and His Masters From Prairie View A&M. His civilian career also included working as a General Manager for SEEC and a Human Resource Manager for Indian Creek Correctional Center 1993 until 2002.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, Georgia, from 10 a.m -9 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013. The family will receive friends during that time from 6 -- 8 pm on Monday, July 29, 2013. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11 am.
