Elmer Lee Smith, 81, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Wellstar Wendy Hill Hospital following a period of declining health.
Born September 24, 1931 in Gainesville, GA to the late Hubert and Mae Smith, he had lived in Dawson County since 2005 having moved from Forsyth County. Mr. Smith retired as maintenance supervisor for Tyson Foods after over 30 years of service. He was also employed several years at Georgia Broiler. Elmer enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, beekeeping, making wine, growing walnuts, raising yard chickens, the Atlanta Braves, western movies, fishing and riding his golf cart through the neighborhood. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Gerald Smith, Terry Smith; and brothers, Dilmus "Shorty" Smith, Edwin "Babe" Smith, and Calvin Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Reagan Smith, Dawsonville; children, Shirley and Donald Miller, Clermont, Shelia and Roger Henderson, Cumming, Anthony and Doris Smith, Dawsonville, Lee Ann and John Frix, Dawsonville; sisters and brother in law, Frances Sosebee, Cumming, Maerell and Glen Garrett, Oakwood, Sandra Young, Gainesville; brother and sisters in law, Earl and Joann Smith, Gainesville, Leclare Smith, Flowery Branch; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 19, 2013 at 2 o'clock at Juno Baptist Church with the remains placed in state at 1 p.m. Rev. Tommy Weldy, Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Jimmy Martin, and Rev. Danny Ray martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 and Thursday from 2 until 9 at the funeral home.
