Essie Mae Grissom

Mrs. Essie Mae Grissom, age 93, of Suwanee, GA passed from this life on June 21, 2013 to go and be with the Lord.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecero and Ada Lee Ramey; first husband, John Tuggle; five children, Helen Mae Tuggle, Barbara T. Garner, John Edwin Tuggle, Jerome Archie Tuggle and Jimmy Lamar Tuggle; brothers, Donald Ramey, Fred Ramey, Floyd Ramey and Bill Ramey; sisters, Nellie Stewart West, Lois Bolden and Jackie Clay.

Mrs. Grissom is survived by her husband of thirty-six years, James Grissom, step daughters, Jane and Joey Martin, Flowery Branch, GA, Sandra and Bob Russell, Talking Rock, GA, Diane and Henry Puckett, Bethlehem, GA and Patricia and Danny Weathers, Jefferson, GA; grandchildren, Paul and Vickie Garner, Sugar Hill, GA, Phillip Garner, Sugar Hill, GA, Jeriann and Sammy Garris, Buford, GA, Patrick and Michelle Garner, Suwanee, GA, Pamela and Randy Elliot, Cleveland, OH, Penny and Casey Fauscett, Ball Ground, GA, Julie and Johnny Dillard, Oakwood, GA, Ginger and Jay Cash, Vero Beach, FL, Charley Kenney, Atlanta, GA, Missy and Jonathan Ward, Winder, GA, Robbie and Kitty Puckett, Stone Mountain, GA, Stacy and Ray Forehand, Dacula, GA, Angie and Junior Mullins, Winder, GA, Frank and Hilda Russell, Norcross, GA and Angela Russell, Winder, GA; sisters, Lennon and Minnie Tuggle, Buford, GA, Dorothy Holbrook, Woodstock, GA, Patsy Page, Oakwood, GA, Sparky and Jean Martin, Sugar Hill, GA; sister in law, Beulah Dow, Lawrenceville, GA; twenty four great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Grissom gave her life to Christ at a young age and was of the Baptist Faith. During her active years at Riverside Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and helped out with other activities. She worked at Suwanee School in the cafeteria for thirty-plus years and was manager the last few years of her employment before retiring.

Mrs. Grissom was married to her first husband, John Tuggle, for thirty-nine years before his death in 1976. Her second husband, James Grissom and she were married for thirty-six years before her death. Mrs. Grissom loved gardening, growing flowers and sewing until her health prevented her from doing so. She was also an avid baker of cakes and other delicious items which she sold to help pay for her home after retirement from the cafeteria. She held sacred her long-time Tuesday morning hair appointments with her stylist, Helen, and her great friends who came each Tuesday.

Though Mrs. Grissom suffered much loss of her family members, she continued to love life and was always very hospitable and gracious to everyone she knew and met. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Garner and Rev. Sammy Garris officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m.
